Schiehallion - the Caledonian Mountain of the fairies - has a classic 'mountain' shape when viewed from the west. The majority of it consists of quartzite (with some rose quartz) and there are also outcrops of Dalradian Limestone and Schiehallion Boulder Bed. The elegant shape is the result of ice flow. The ice retreated about 10,000 years ago.
